Skincare Myths & Truths Behind Natural Skincare

By 16 April 2026No Comments

We live in a day-and-age that has information readily available. “Do this to loose 10 kg”, “Drink this to feel more energised”, “Listen to this to feel more calm”.

New ingredients, new trends and new products, all promising instant transformation. Somewhere in between the loudness, we have been missing the point. Skincare was never supposed to override our natural  design. It’s supposed to complement our bodies.  But to do this, we need to understand what our skin needs. Every single person has a different need, whether you have dry, oily, acne-prone, sensitive or mature skin- your skincare should reflect this need. In a wholesome, holistic light, your lifestyle should support what your skin is yearning for, not compromise its inherent design.

MYTH 1: Skincare is one-size-fits-all

FACT: Everyone’s skin is unique. Genetics, environment, hormonal imbalance, physical health and emotional stressors each play a role. Your skin is most likely different to your siblings’ and parents’ skin. What works for them, will not necessarily work for you too. That’s why we believe that it is necessary to have different skincare ranges, depending on your skin type. In the month of April we are focusing on our Calming Range. Designed to help with eczema, dry and flaky skin, relieving “burning” sensations and clearing up acne scars.

MYTH 2: More expensive= better quality

FACT: A higher price tag does not always mean a better product. Instead, ask yourself, “How close is this product to what nature already provides?” Let the answer to this question, guide your decisions. Modern formulas, more than one would be able to name, has taken nature and made artificial “look-alikes”, meant to perform the same function. As these formulations move further away from their intended natural origin, the result may look like irritation, congestion, or frequent breakouts. True quality is found in the integrity of ingredients, their sourcing and how they function with your skin, not against it.

MYTH 3: Acne indicates a skin barrier issue

FACT: Acne is far more complex than just being a “problem on the skin’s surface”. We need to realise how complex each layer of the skin is. All these layers work in harmony, to give the outer result of true health. Internal factors, such as hormones, inflammation, stress and lifestyle habits have a much greater influence on breakouts, than just the barrier itself. Skincare should therefore be seen as support and maintenance for the skin, not a complete fix for deeper internal imbalances.

The right products can still make a meaningful difference by calming irritation, reducing congestion, and supporting healthier skin function. That’s why, at Origin Living, we focus on purposeful ingredients and active botanicals that work beyond the surface. These intentional formulations help address the visible signs of imbalance while nurturing the skin as a whole.

Holistic living cannot be perfected, and was never meant to be. Flawless skin, flawless routines or flawless balance has never been the goal. The goal remains: learning how to listen and responding to what your body needs, with grace, intention and consistency.

Daily choices, returning to simplicity and having a deeper understanding of your body helps create a space for true wellness to grow. Skincare should not compete with nature- allow it to work in harmony with it.
